LEH

The first Rose from the Lady Emma Hamilton in my garden. A perfect flower in shades of apricit and copper. It smells very citrusy and sweet. This rose is glowing in the garden compared to the darker green foliage below. There are eleven Rose buds on the bush, so thats ten more to go.
Roses are the archetypal English garden flower, and recently voted the nations number one flower. I read they are used in gardens for people with dementia/alzheimers as they evoke such strong memorys, and are easily recognisable as a Rose.

This rose is new to me, and sounds nice. I hadn't heard about the aromatherapeutic use of roses for people with Alzheimer's/dementia. It makes sense (forgive the pun): apparently a lot of smell receptors are in our stem brains, which seem to chug on regardless of what's going on in the frontal lobes.

Thanks Verobirdie,I do love the colour, form, and scent of this Rose especially after it has just opened. The flower shape changes, as does the colour as it ages. The only problem has been blackspot because of the rain.
Hi Pomona,I will try to do a blog post about the Alazheimers/Dementia garden. The first one I saw was the one at the Chelsea RHS flower show this year.
I know flowers can makes us remember where we first saw them, or some happy memory involving them.
The BBC's study showed the Rose to be the number one choice of the UK gardeners.A program on Thursday will say which Rose has been made Rose of the year 2008...
