I was saddened today to hear about the death of Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. He was filming underwater off the Queensland coast.
He was a true blue Aussie, and famous naturalist. He loved the crocodiles and snakes that he was frequently filmed with. The TV shows we watched here, and all over the world.
His Catchphrase was "Crikey" as he interacted with dangerous animals, poisonous snakes, and Saltwater Crocs etc. He knew how to interact with crocs, even though it scared people who watched him. He had what he called "Croc Savvy".
He was bought a reptile when he was six, and began a lifelong passion for the natural world. His honeymoon was spent capturing wild crocodiles , for a relocation to Australian zoo's when the crocodiles in Australia were threatened with extinction.
He leaves behind his wife, two children, and an army of fans throughout Australia and the world.

Yes this news is very sad. It doesn't seem right somehow.
I only put the radio on to listen to Classic FM.I heard on the 5 o clock news.I checked it out on the BBC news website.In naturalist terms he was one of my Fav's along with David Bellamy..Im still shocked.We all need our iconic heros and after my year in Australia i loved the crocs.Salties and Freshies.He had the passion for them, and for protecting them from humans.Catching wild ones that had ventured too far from their natural habitat.Life is a mystery sometimes why things happen..
This makes me sad too, particularly for his family. At least he died doing what he loved. He always knew it was dangerous, although I guess he wasn't the type to let that stop him.
He will be sorely missed...he really showed people how to be unafraid to plug back into the earth and all of her creatures...unafraid...and I'm sure God has a special spot for someone so true and yet so self-effacing...Godspeed....
Yes it's sad national tragedy here. there were traffic snarls on the highway north of Brisbane today as people made their way to Australia zoo to pay tribute. Our state premier has offered a state funeral to the family and offered to name a national park after him. He'll be sadly missed.
He was one of my favorite people in the world! Funny, enthusiastic, and cared much for the earth's environment.
What a guy!
He was a part of all of our lives and I will miss him too.
He sure lived life to the full didn't he!
