Mystery Roadside Shrub with yellow flowers..
A mad looking Shrub by a traffic lights.I cant find it in my RHS encyclopedia with lots of photos of plants in spring, summer, autumn, and winter in flower colours!
The flower is a thing of beauty, like some intricate restaurant serviette neatly folded out.Does anyone know what its called?
I believe you are looking at Kerria japonica, the double flower variation. The leaves look right, as do the flowers. Can't be sure from the pics, but give 'er a look up and see if you don't agree.
Thanks Ellis, Gail in Nashville, Gotta Garden, David Perry, and Anon.. you are all very sharp eyed. It was an easy spot for you lol, never had five people name the Shrub so quickly. I posted yesterday about the Kerria being in a nursery display with dappled sunlight bouncing off the flowers and leaves... It was also for sale a small potted version of it.They have wanderful flowers, the delicate folds like Origami :) Many thanks to you all!
Ha! I'm so glad you asked this question! This shrub is all over the yard of the house we just bought, and I have never seen it in a plant catalog (of which I've read quite a few). I searched for "shrub yellow flowers -forsythia" (since I figured forsythia was the most popular and I *know* it's not that), and your blog came right up! Now my curiosity is satisfied.

I'd guess Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' aka 'Flora Pleno'.
looks like kerria japonica to me....gail in Nashville
I'm going to make a guess...double kerria japonica. Here's a link:

Okay, I hope that works! Sorry I am not more computer proficient!
It looks like a double-flowering Kerria Japonica, but I could be wrong.
