Mother-in-laws Tongue always reminds me of dark victorian hallways - and in the film (with Richard E Grant) Keep the Aspidistras Flying - his landlady wonders why her hallway plant keeps getting little brown holes in it - and Richard E Grant's character says it's a clear case of nicotinus something or other (because he's been stubbing his fags out on it!)
