Could not find an image of hollyhock black knight so here is the seed packet.These are on my wishlist now.They look magic in the garden i saw them in.. Posted by Picasa

Wow, those look great. What would you plant as companions for it (or what was in the garden where you saw them)?

I would put them at the back of the border, towering high above everything else.In the garden they were near a wooden fence in the corner next to low lying plants like begonias and french marigolds.I would have massed planted for effect, and for making them stand out.Watch next years border space...

I have "black watchman" hollyhocks, but this is their first year so they aren't blooming yet. I have some planted with russian sage, blue-leaf cabbage, bronze fennel, and baptisia australis. Others are planted with verbena-on-a-stick and some grasses.

I think it's fun to see how different people mix different plants... and somehow all of the combinations look good!

are they the same hollyhock black knight?the people have them next to petunias.i would have them as a centre piece with contrasting foliage around them.
